It’s January, and that means I’m optimistic! I say this every year, but I have a good feeling about 2019. This is going to be the best one yet.
Like so many other people, I began this year pondering resolutions. Specifically, my design resolutions. Like so many other folks I’ve been inspired by the lovely Marie Kondo to get rid of the clutter and embrace joy. 2019 is the year to get organized!
Now that can be difficult in a design studio, where lush layers of velvet mingle with sleek marble samples on a daily basis. When the team pulls together a collected, textured interior, we pull out all the stops. And that means, we pull out all the samples! Sometimes, proper organization gets thrown out the window.
Let me show you what I mean:
This is our studio library, where we store all of our samples: soft and hard finishes, our encyclopedias of fabrics and leathers, tiles, rug tufts…if it goes into a home, then there’s a piece of it in our library somewhere. Because the design team is always hard at work, the library can get a little disorganized. In a flurry of inspiration and planning, sometimes samples don’t make it back to their appropriate location.
I decided to enlist the help of a professional. Cathryn Linn of The Organizing Organization has graciously stepped into the role of COO, that’s Chief Organization Officer for Laura U. Cathryn is a native Houstonian with a natural talent and passion for organization. We are thrilled to collaborate on this together!
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing our organizational journey. From sorting and purging to labeling and install, we will showcase it all. Be sure to follow along on Instagram for the latest!
