2019 High Point Market Fall Preview

2019 High Point Market Fall Preview

High Point Market Building

Next month, the design team and I are heading to High Point! While I have been attending the world’s largest furnishings market for over a decade, for many on my team this will be a first. Needless to say, we’re getting excited, filling our agendas with new collections and finding the perfect pair of walk-with-me-all-day shoes.

This market is going to be a special one for me as it is one of the most important stops on the mini On Style book tour. What better place to introduce design lovers to insider inspiration and advice than at High Point?

So instead of anticipating this market’s next big trend, I’m giving you a sneak peek into my events schedule. From panels to book signings to sourcing, this is what I’m looking forward to next month.

The Book Signing – On Style: Inspiration and Advice from the Next Generation of Interior Design

I was honored to be considered as one of the top 50 up-and-coming designers named by Carl Dellatore in his latest, On Style. At High Point, I’ll join four amazingly talented designers to celebrate the book release.

Young Huh, whose incredibly fresh take on the artist’s studio at Kipp’s Bay stole the show, will be there. As well as Tina Ramchandani, Bria Hammel, and Sarah Bartholomew. This is a fabulous cast of designers and I am so very proud to join them next month.

Design Firm Growth – How to Achieve Repeatable Success

Last April, I joined LuAnn Nigara for a panel on business growth in the design industry. I love chatting about business, and I’m always enthralled by the professional journeys of others. Christopher Grubb, my fellow panelist, operates a similar firm, and yet the way we approach work and team management were very different.

It was such a compelling discussion, that LuAnn felt we needed at least another hour to share our insights as business leaders. So we’re doing it again!

Joining me this round is Kate O’Hara of Martha O’Hara Interiors, with offices in Austin and Minneapolis. Both of us lead larger firms and prescribe to proprietary methods to support marketing and business development.

We’re taking over the High Point Theater for this one, so if you’re a designer seeking out growth strategies, there’s plenty of room for you to soak it all in.

Beyond the Bar: Entertaining Ideas with My Friends at Monogram

Every time I stroll into my fabulously appointed kitchen, I am reminded of my good friends at Monogram. When I was prepping my home to be a showhouse, Monogram and their parent company GE were essential in helping me find beautiful appliances. This market, they are setting up shop in a glass house in the Wren District, where this sure-to-be lively panel will take place.

We’re finding more and more clients who consider the kitchen to be the heart of their homes. And so we find ourselves designing spaces that support large gatherings, while also being fucntional for gourmet chefs. This is the marriage between the art of design and the science of a good space plan, with high-performing appliances that can handle it all! We’re finding more and more clients who consider the kitchen to be the heart of their homes. With Mark Epstein, Shayla Copas, and Toni Sabatino, this panel will share our thoughts on luxury entertaining beyond the ol’ days of settling around the bar cart or backyard grill. We’re finding more and more clients who consider the kitchen to be the heart of their homes. What Else in Store at Market?

I will most definitely visit my favorite showrooms. I’m particularly excited to see Nick Olsen’s special “Designer in Residence” series at Bernhardt. Made Goods converted-bank-turned-showroom is always on my list, as well as Century, Vanguard, and of course, Hudson Valley Lighting.

Stay tuned for all the trend spotting, because I will certainly be sharing that as well, when I return from market next month! In the meantime, don’t forget to follow all the excitement on Instagram.
