On November 16th 2020, Laura U Design Collective and Houston Furniture Bank are officially kicking off the 2nd Annual No Kids on the Floor Bedding Drive. Last year, we helped donate hundreds of blankets, sheet sets, pillows, and comforters to Houston families in need. This year, we plan on a drive that is bigger and better than ever. With new partners like Ashley Home Store and Mattresses for Less, we’ve increased the number of donation drive locations. We’re also encouraging contactless donations, with direct deliveries from Amazon, making it more convenient than ever to contribute to this wonderful cause.
For those of us at Laura U, this drive is one of our favorite times of the year – when our love of home goes beyond great design and touches the hearts of the community at large. Home is such an important, grounding force in the minds of children. Warmth, security, and comfort are the foundation upon which happy families are built, and where our mission is focused day after day. We hope you will join us now until December 17th as we collect soft goods and bedding for the No Kids on the Floor campaign.
What is the No Kids on the Floor Bedding Drive?

The importance of a good night’s rest cannot be over-emphasized. Especially for young kiddos, who are still growing in both mind and body, promoting sleep is a key component of positive mental and physical health. Sadly, there are thousands of Houston-area families who have been negatively affected by poverty, mental illness, natural disasters, and other adversities, preventing them from providing a comfortable bed for their children.
Houston Furniture Bank created the No Kids on the Floor campaign to create healthy living environments, where every child has a bed of their own. For over 25 years, the Furniture Bank has provided essential furnishings, such as beds, tables, and chairs to families in need. Now, we are partnering with them to ensure that those beds come with cozy sheets, warm blankets, and soft pillows.
The No Kids on the Floor Bedding Drive is a month-long campaign. Alongside our partner businesses, Laura U Design Collective leads a social media blitz to encourage our design community to come together and collect bedding for this powerful cause. This year, we are hoping you will donate directly as we promote a contactless experience. More information on ways to donate below.
How can You Donate?

There are so many ways to donate to the No Kids on the Floor Bedding Drive!
Drop Off in Person
This year, we have over two dozen physical donation locations, where you may drop off your soft goods in-person. Make sure your bedding is brand new, in the packaging. You can find a drop off spot here. We have great partners located all over the Houston metro, so you’re sure to find a location that is convenient for you. Most locations are accepting donations during open hours, but if you’re unsure, all contact information is located in the link and on Houston Furniture Bank’s website.
Direct Delivery
You may also opt to purchase from Amazon and have the bedding directly delivered to Houston Furniture Bank. This is a great contactless option! Purchase a new twin sheet set (or blanket or pillow) through Amazon Prime and designate Houston Furniture Bank as your charity. The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of all eligible purchases to Houston Furniture Bank! It’s that little extra to your donation that can make a big difference for a family in need this holiday season.
Monetary Donations
The Furniture Bank also accepts monetary donations on their website. For every $150 donated, a bed set is provided to a child in need. You can also become a monthly donor, helping Houston Furniture Bank grow the program so that one day, no child sleeps on the floor in the city of Houston.
Together, We Can Make A Difference

Houston Furniture Bank plays a critical role in the community. By partnering with nearly 50 non-profit organizations, the Houston Furniture Bank provides furniture assistance to more than 100 families each month.
Through their work of recycling mattresses and donating furnishings, they discovered that many Houston-area children did not have beds of their own. These kiddos were sleeping with siblings or parents, and yes, sometimes, the floor. For founder Oli Mohammed this simply would not do and the No Kids on the Floor campaign was born.
In 2019, Laura U Design Collective co-hosted the first bedding drive, collecting hundreds of much-needed sheets, blankets, and pillows for the families benefitting from the Houston Furniture Bank. Together, we reach our extended networks of designers, architects, builders, furniture companies, and more to spread the word about helping Houston families.
Now, every holiday season, we work with local businesses to collect and donate bedding to Houston Furniture Bank, making the holidays a little cozier for our community. We’re so excited to have the opportunity to partner with Houston Furniture Bank to help these families create a beautiful, comfortable home they can enjoy together.
We hope you choose to be a part of the No Kids On The Floor campaign by donating any of the needed items during our bedding drive. Together, we can help ensure children in the Houston community have a bed to call their own.
