Final Reveal Friday – A Mountain View in Aspen

A mountain view in this Aspen retreat, designed by Laura U

Today, we are happily revealing our Mountainview project. With stunning views of Red Mountain, this Aspen vacation home is the perfect retreat for a Houston family. This is the second home for our clients, who initially desired a simple apres ski design but eventually opted for stylish Mountain Modern look.

The home is located just minutes from downtown, which is where the family spends their summers. Throughout July, the homeowners can find themselves shopping, hiking, and enjoying the lovely weather. Houston is almost unbearably hot and humid in the summer, while Aspen’s temperate climate and endlessly sunny skies make for an unforgettable season.

Design Concept: Mountain Modern

Mountainview’s superb location drove our design selections. Swaying a bit from traditional Aspen interior design, the Mountainview residence reflects its proximity to the city and the client’s metropolitan personality. By using a palette of navy, camel, and deep reds, we gave this mountain home a contemporary twist. Ralph Lauren-inspired, the home has a distinctly American presence that is both dynamic and comforting. This enthusiasm is carried throughout the home, with every room designed for warm gatherings with family and friends. While there is a study for moments of work, the rest of the home is communal.

The Foyer

Our clients desired a foyer that was bright and airy, reflective of the home’s overall design. Like a traditional mountain home, the foyer was originally dark and centered around one shade: brown. Bringing the space into the modern, we painted some of the existing elements like the door, trim, bench and walls.

With a new, expanded color palette of black, white and brown, we then selected pieces that would unite the space. A black, Arteriors chandelier hangs from the ceiling, tying together the space’s darker features. The light fixture’s antique brass finish contrasts against the space’s black and white elements. But it also complements the gold Restoration Hardware mirror hanging on the wall. Below the mirror is a Palecek console table with a white, distressed hardwood frame that further contributes to the home’s modern-rustic aesthetic. On it rests a blue and white Arteriors lamp and several Made Goods pieces. It also features a Ralph Lauren book that gives nod to the home’s inspiration.

The Study

The Mountainview residence may be a vacation home, but work doesn’t stop for our clients throughout the summer. Because of that, we opted to create a comfortable yet functional office space congruent with the home’s mountain modern design. We grounded the space in a calming shade of blue that contrasts against the room’s warmer hues. Two Horchow ottomans rest below an Arteriors chandelier that centers the space. All three pieces have a metallic brass finish that elevate the room’s overall design. Above the sofa hangs a Peeking Cow print from Sisi and Seb and a limited edition art piece by Jennifer Daily. Separated from the rest of the home by sliding glass doors, this room is a relaxing and comfortable place to get work done.

The Middle Living Room

Since our Mountainview clients are often hosting guests, it’s nice to have several spaces for them to gather. This communal area is one of two living rooms. Made for rest and relaxation, the space features a benchmade sectional upholstered in a blue ID Collection fabric. Like the sofa, the gray club chairs were designed by our team and fabricated by House and Town. We also selected a Bernhardt Hospitality accent chair upholstered in an Allan Knight faux leather to bring a bit of warmth to the space. Tied together by a Loloi rug, this living room is the perfect gathering place for families and friends.

The Main Living Room

While the middle living room was designed for rest and relaxation, the upper living room was designed for year-round entertaining. Guests can enjoy stunning views of Red Mountain in the summer and cozy up next to a fireplace in the winter. The space also features optimal seating for large gatherings. A modern white sectional, cowhide ottoman, and Bernhardt Hospitality lounge chairs center around an Arteriors cocktail table. Accompanied by several Made Goods and AREA accessories, this space is both comfortable and fashionable.

The Dining Room

Primarily white and gray, the dining room is one of Mountainview’s more modern spaces. White elements serve as a backdrop to several contemporary pieces like the bubble chandelier and marble table accessories from Palecek. The adjoining dry bar makes for great storage space and contrasts beautifully against the dark, geometric wallpaper.

The Master Bedroom

Whether our clients spent their day on the slopes or in downtown Aspen, they can always find rest in their serene master suite. Several rustic pieces like the Arteriors chandelier, Restoration Harware nightstands and Aiden Gray mirrors create a warm and cozy atmosphere. Meanwhile, the settee’s serene shade of blue puts a busy mind to rest.

The Kids Spaces

While the master suite embraces several shades of blue, the kids rooms are ruled by mature neutrals and pops of playful color. Each one represents the unique personality of the kiddo who calls it home. We extended their individual aesthetics into the kids’ living room, which is where the children have sleepovers, play games and watch movies. While the kids like having their own space, our clients enjoy not having to worry about the formal living areas getting too messy.
